If this is your first time here, we're glad you came; if you're a return visitor, it's good to have you back.

Beginning with this issue, both the print and online versions of the Review now include the winning selections from the previous year's entries in the Big Sandy Literary/Art Contest.

First Place and Honorable Mention recipients in the categories of Fiction, Non-Fiction, Poetry, and Illustration appear in the appropiate sections of the site.

A complete list of winners can also be found on a dedicated page that is accessible by clicking the LAC Winners link on the navigation menu.

Old Friends and New Voices

But the winning entries in last year's competition are only part of what makes the 2011 edition such a welcome addition to this unique collection of words and images that captures the spirit of contemporary Appalachian arts.

In addition to contest winners by Mikka Gamble (Baccer Stick), Catherine Smith ((The Best Laid Plans), Joshua Logan Slone (The Mountain Letters), and Tamara Howard (Plain White Tennis Shoes), this year's Prose section also features offerings from newcomers like Sheldon Compton (The Bottom Field), Nathan Hall (Faustian Bargain), and Tom Matijasic (Raising a Regrettable Past), as well as frequent contributor Phyllis Puffer (Trust Me).

Similarly, our Poetry and Photo sections include winning contest entries alongside the poems and photos of such familiar faces as Matt Smith (Thursday), David Profitt (Thus Breaks the Dawn), and Ariel Salisbury (Sunset) and new contributors to both art forms, including dual-award-winning poet Sheila Golllihue (That Girl, How Do We Forget?) and an impressive cast of talented writers and creative shutterbugs.

Choose a section from the menu at the top or bottom of the page and begin exploring the latest edition of the Cut-Thru Review, the literary journal of Big Sandy Community & Technical College.

Enjoy!!
